Learn About Energy Ratings
Learn About Energy Ratings
AFUE, or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency, is a measure of a furnace's heating efficiency. Higher AFUE percentages mean the product has higher efficiency when using fuel.
HSPF, or Heating Seasonal Performance Factor, measures a heat pump's heating efficiency. A higher HSPF rating indicates higher efficiency.
SEER, or the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, measures an air conditioner's cooling efficiency. A higher rating means higher efficiency.
In each case, the higher the rating, the more efficient an HVAC unit is and the more you can expect to save on annual energy usage. Your Coleman® HVAC dealer can help you determine what equipment, and what efficiency rating, is best for your home and location.
Ratings That Can Save You Money
The Benefits of ENERGY STAR®
Created by the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the ENERGY STAR® label indicates products with at least 15% to 25% energy savings compared to standard products.
Unlike the ratings discussed above, ENERGY STAR® isn't a rating system, but it does help quickly identify more efficient HVAC products.
Finding an ENERGY-STAR® label on an HVAC product – like you'd find on almost half of all Coleman® air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces – means you'll save on the everyday expense of staying comfortable in your home.
Find the Perfect Fit
A HVAC system that is too big results in uneven temperatures and poor humidity control. A system that is too small will wear more quickly and require additional maintenance.
The best way to get the perfect fit for your home is by getting help from your Coleman® HVAC dealer. They will be able to determine the best-size system for your specific home and individual comfort needs.
Increase Energy Savings With Add-Ons
Smart and communicating thermostats, as well as some indoor air quality (IAQ) products, can increase your system's efficiency even more. Smart and communicating thermostats help by monitoring your system and making slight adjustments for more even temperature regulation. IAQ products can increase energy savings by making the air in your home feel more comfortable overall, reducing the number of times thermostat adjustments are necessary.
In both cases, the benefit comes from perceived comfort: the more comfortable you feel, the less likely you are to adjust your system and spend more on energy costs.
